Our Legacy
In 1952, after managing the gift shop at Nubble Light for a few summers, Max and Helen Thomson purchased the building at 3 Main Street, York Beach. They opened the Whispering Sands Gift Shop, and started a family tradition that has continued for four generations and over 70 years.
Their daughter Lois started selling her famous “Nana’s Fudge” at the store a couple of years later, and the same recipe is still used today. Son Bill purchased the store in 1971, and became a legend in town for his wealth of stories and knowledge about the people of York Beach.
Continuing A Family Tradition
In 1995, Bill Sr. retired, and a new generation took over. Bill Thomson and his wife, Jane, and Jeff Thomson and his wife, Ann, continued the family tradition of providing a great selection of quality clothing and gifts, at affordable prices, in the largest and best gift shop in York Beach! Today, Ann & Jeff are continuing the Whispering Sands legacy.
